Q: Why don't any of your "DP Guilds" use guild chat?
A: First of all, just to be clear, a DP Official Guild is a guild created of, by, and for DPers. For instance, Moonsmoke Investigations, or Anduin's Irregulars. Most of these guilds are created for pacer groups.
Many DPers belong to non-DP guilds, and that's great. Obviously, though, those guilds may or may not line up with our conventions and standards.
Most "Official" DP guilds don't use guildchat by custom, and some guild leaders always turn it off altogether. We do this because, unlike our ooc chat channel, you can't individually "leave" guild chat. You can hide it, but there's no indication to any of the other players online if you are hiding it or not, so there's no way to tell who will receive messages and who won't. So, we like to use our ooc chat channel for the idle ooc banter, and reserve guildchat for rare super-important guild-wide communication.
(This is also why we ask that people not hide ooc chat, but just leave and join as they will.)
